
SKILLS MAINTENANCE
2025/2026 SKILLS MAINTENANCE (PROFICIENCY)
Kurrawa has set the following dates for our Skills Maintenance:

#1 Saturday 6th September
#2 Sunday 7th September
# 3: Sunday 21st September
# 4: Saturday 22nd November

You must enrol for your chosen date via our jotform here.

Each Lifesaving CPR session is capped at 48 candidates (including IRB participants)
​​
Each year members that wish to patrol or compete must undertake a proficiency test to be deemed competent in the awards they hold.
All members that were proficient in the 2024/2025 season must attend a skills maintenance prior to 31st December 2025 unless you have gained the award after 1 July 2025. Members that were not proficient in 2024/2025 will need to complete a 400mtr pool swim in 9 minutes or less and 200mtr in 5 minutes or less for SRC prior to attending a Skills Maintenance test. Members that have not been proficient for a period of 3 years or more need to contact lifesaving@kurrawasurf.com.au

PATROLLING MEMBERS:
The Run/Swim/Rescue and Signals component will be completed with endorsed delegates during patrol operations.

NON-PATROLLING MEMBERS:
After you have completed the lifesaving CPR practical session, you must complete the Signals & Run/Swim/Rescue component at 8:30am on one of the following patrol dates:

Sunday 22nd September (after skills maintenance)

Sunday 12th October

Sunday 26th October

Saturday 1st November
-
Sunday 2nd November

Saturday 22nd November (after skills maintenance)
You may also complete this component at any morning patrol in December.
Note: No booking is required for the signals/run/swim/rescue water component of skills maintenance.
Skills Maintenance Checks (proficiency) will include but not limited to:

Completing the online theory (instructions located below)

Participating in a Run, Swim, Run

Demonstrating CPR skills
-
Demonstrating competency in Board and Tube rescues
-
Demonstrating Carries
-
Spinal care (water and walk up)
-
Signals
-
Radio - Including GWN
-
Education platform and general information
-
Power craft awards (IRB Driver & Crew)
The theory components must all be completed online via the SLSQ Education Hub.

Prior to registering to attend a practical lifesaving CPR skills maintenance session, you must;
Be a financial member for the 2025/26 season
Hold a valid blue card (18+)
Have completed online skills maintenance theory
Have completed online Child Safety Modules

Members that only hold the Emergency Care awards (First Aid or ART) MUST attend a skills maintenance check to maintain proficiency in their Resuscitation award.

Members are not permitted to participate in Skills Maintenance at other clubs unless pre-arranged through Kurrawa.
