WHAT IS NIPPERS?
Nippers is the junior branch of the Surf Life Saving movement. It educates U6 to U14's about many aspects of surf life saving and prepares them for entry into the Senior Club. Children must be at least 5 years of age on or before midnight 30th September 2021 in order to be old enough to participate in the 2021/2022 Nipper season.
Kurrawa SLSC Junior Activities is affiliated to the SLSQ South Coast Branch, which includes clubs from Point Lookout to Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park.
Junior Activities can be a very rewarding experience for the whole family. There are opportunities for children and parents to learn important Surf Life Saving skills and gain personal satisfaction through participation.

NIPPER SUNDAYS
All Dates and times for Sunday Nipper Activities can be found on the document – “Nipper Calendar”. At this stage we are waiting for the governing bodies calendar to confirm the entire season, so the “Nipper Calendar” document will be finalised and distributed once we receive the calendar.
When does Sunday Nippers start?
-
The timing for nippers will be 8:30am to 10:30am unless advised otherwise.
-
If Sunday Nippers is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, the decision will be broadcast by 7am via the nippers Facebook page.
Where do we meet for Sunday Nippers?
-
All age groups are to meet in front of the Kurrawa SLSC by 8:15am on scheduled nipper Sundays.
-
Nippers are required to sign on with their age manager before starting Sunday Nippers and sign out at the end of Sunday Nippers. A parent needs to be in attendance for both processes to ensure the safety of our nippers.
What to bring to Sunday Nippers?
-
All nippers must wear their swimwear, high visibility pink rash vest and club cap to participate in Nippers.
-
Dealing with the weather is an important component of lifesaving activities, so bring appropriate clothing and protection for the prevailing weather. Sunscreen & sun protection on hot days or warm clothing & umbrella’s on cold & wet days.
-
A few dollars for the BBQ after nippers
What happens at Sunday Nippers?
-
Each age group will be guided through the morning by their age manager.
-
Nippers will run through a variety of age/skill appropriate lifesaving activities aimed at improving confidence and ability within the ocean environment. Activities cover lifesaving skills, water skills and beach skills with the aim of educating our young lifesavers.
What doesn’t happen at Sunday Nippers?
-
Nipper activities are not a child minding service. Sunday Nippers and any other activity for nippers will require parent involvement. At Sunday Nippers a parent / guardian must be present on the beach at all times and must keep the age manager informed when supporting siblings in another age group (in case of emergency).
-
Sunday Nippers is not a learn to swim program and we strongly encourage all nippers to participate in an external professional swimming program. Your child will be safer in the ocean and progress quicker if they are a confident swimmer.
