How to enrol in a Surf Rescue Certificate / Bronze Medallion Course
(Mandatory steps for new members)

Step 1: Download the Pool Swim Form here
 

Step 2: Attend your local pool and complete a timed pool swim with an accredited swim coach (SRC: 200m<5min / Bronze 400m<9min unaided) have the coach sign your pool swim form and keep the signed form as proof of completion.  (If you cannot pass the swim unfortunately you cannot participate in the course - keep practicing your timed swim)
 

Step 3: Create a USI Number and keep a record of  your number - Instructions to create a USI can be found here
 

Step 4: Complete a Blue card form online here  (only required for 18+)

Step 5: Once you've completed all the above steps you can join Kurrawa SLSC and enrol into the next SRC/Bronze course!
Come into our Administration Office located inside Kurrawa Surf Lifesaving Club (Mon-Fri, 8am-4pm) or call our office during opening hours (07) 5527 5660 to join, set up an online portal account and learn how to log in to the course via the members portal.

Step 6: Once you are a member of Kurrawa SLSC you will be required to complete an Australian Lifesaving Academy Student registration form here and keep proof of registration confirmation

 

Additional information regarding the Bronze Medallion Course:

 

Bronze Medallion training will consist of;

  • 200mtr Run/200mtr Swim/200mtr Run course in the ocean

  • Board and Tube rescues

  • Spinal management

  • Emergency care/CPR

  • Safety and well being

  • First Aid and carries

  • Radios

 

  • Training is conducted over 6-8 weekend period for 5 hours each day. (we do conduct some school holiday courses when required)

  • Attendance is required to all training sessions and the assessment.

  • There is also a self paced online theory assessment to be completed in your own time.

  • Once you have gained the bronze you will be allocated to a patrol group and must attend volunteer patrols as per your roster.

  • These patrols come around every 3-4 weeks and are alternate morning/afternoon patrols for 4.5 hours September through to May each year.
